Migrating Birds Need Our Park
“Places like the Strasburg Community Park are important stopovers during bird migration. Declining bird numbers are attributed to habitat loss on their wintering and breeding grounds, but mortality during migration is very high and places with multi habitats like this park provide food, water and shelter for birds that have flown 100’s or more miles during the night in migration and need to refuel and rest. The majority of the birds on this list are migrants passing through and stopping for the day or several days. This park provides a microcosm of their preferred habitat that affords them the necessary sustenance to continue.”
